Let’s start with an introduction … I’m Raychel. I’m 25 years old. I’ve been married for 3 years. I have two beautiful children; my daughter is 3.5 and my son is 11 weeks. I’ve recently discovered the joys of pintrest, and in doing so have been browsing through lots of blogs. Every time I come across a great blog or a great post (Pin!), I think… I could do that! Since I’m certifiably terrible at documenting my family’s memories in scrapbooks, I figured I’d give it a try online. Also, I’ve never been one to be at a loss for words; my problem is usually finding someone to talk to. Oh, the joy of a stay at home mom discovering the social networking available online!
Now, I’ve read some pretty awesome blogs. I’m going to be honest… this may not be one of them. Chances are that I’m going to be pretty busy LIVING the life in progress, which is not always conducive to WRITING about it. That being said, I am very excited to venture into the bloggosphere. Now I can unload my many ramblings upon people that choose to listen, as opposed to blowing up the Facebook news feed. 🙂
Quick run down of what you can expect… Like I said, I’m a stay at home mom, so be prepared for me to talk about my kids. A LOT. They’re both pretty incredible, so I can’t imagine that anyone would NOT want to hear about them. My daughter is in the preschool stage, and we’re feeling out the home school idea, so we do lots of play based learning activities. I also try to turn mundane chores, like grocery shopping, into fun learning experiences. I consider raising and teaching my children to be my top priority, and with the recent addition of my son, I’m learning how to balance even more responsibilities. Having two kids is definitely more challenging than only one! Particularly when trying to keep our living space clean and organized. Its like trying to clean up during a hurricane… and I’m terrible at staying organized to begin with!
Despite the very “lived in” state of our apartment, I firmly believe that memories will be centered around family adventures and time spent together rather than how many times a week I mop my floor (if you’re wondering… I consider once a week an accomplishment). Obviously there’s a certain level of cleanliness and organization that’s required to maintain some semblance of sanity, so I’m constantly on the hunt for tips and tricks to streamline that tedious process so we can get on with the good stuff. I love doing things with my family. My husband is very outdoorsy, so going camping, hiking, and bike riding happens as often as possible. We also love taking walks, going apple picking, watching movies, cooking and eating, reading lots of books together, and just spending time enjoying each other’s company.
Let’s see… What else? Knitting, crocheting, scrapbooking, quilting, sewing, baking, DIY, art…. Basically I jump at any opportunity to be crafty and creative. Some projects turn out infinitely better than others, but ya know… The good, the bad, and the ugly – it’s all part of the experience! I love sharing my creative works with others, so I recently started a website where I’m documenting and selling my projects. The site is called “From Raychel’s Hands“. I have a Facebook page by the same name dedicated to my crafty stuff as well. I haven’t posted pictures and personalized either site much yet, because I literally JUST started them. So if you visit the pages and they seem underwhelming, don’t disregard them yet. Try again in a week or so, and things should be more lively.
More stuff about me… I’m an Independent Scentsy and Velata Consultant. If you don’t know what either of those are, you need to check out my corresponding websites. Scentsy Fragrance makes everything in your life smell amazing – your home, your car, your laundry, and even you! I’m more than a little obsessed, so I dedicated a Facebook page to that as well. To describe Velata, I really only need 3 words. Belgian chocolate fondue. Yeah. You heard me. If you’re in my area, I do home parties for either (or both!) brands. If you’re not in my area, or you just want to earn free stuff in the easiest, most convenient way, I can also do a show on the go or even an online party. Seriously. Check it out. You won’t regret it.
Hm. I’ve covered kids, home schooling, housekeeping, family activities, crafting, my delicious and smelly businesses… I guess the last thing would be just me. Sometimes its a struggle to find “we time” with the hubby. There are new mommy challenges daily, and being my child’s teacher poses even more. The list of chores is never-ending. I have friends and family to keep in touch with. I’m a lot of things to a lot of people, but sometimes its just about being me. Having recently given birth, getting back into shape has been on my mind considerably. I’ve never been much for working out, so I try to keep it to things that I enjoy, like yoga, walking, bike riding, and washing laundry. You dont think laundry counts as exercise? We don’t have a washer or dryer, so picture a 5 gallon bucket with a hole in the lid and a plunger… Clean your clothes like that for 20 minutes and tell me if your arms don’t get sore… cuz if they don’t, I’m gonna try to get you to wash mine!
The title of this blog is “Our Lives In Progress…” That’s exactly what you’re gonna get. This is a documentation of the challenges, adventures, sorrows, and joys of my little family. Hope you enjoy the ride as much as I do!
